Shockwave Therapy is a new non-invasive solution for musculoskeletal pain. This extracorporeal shockwave therapy is frequently used in physiotherapy, orthopaedics and sports medicine. Applications are mostly associated with treatment of chronic muscular and tendon disorders, back and neck pain.
Shockwave Therapy acts by delivering high doses of energy to painful areas and triggers healing and the body’s natural healing process.
Shockwave Therapy is researched to be very effective in treating the following chronic conditions:
- Tennis elbow / epicondylitis
- Calcific tendonitis / shoulder pain
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Low Back Pain
- Achilles tendonitis
- Patellar tendonitis
FAQ:AM I A CANDIDATE FOR THERAPY?
With few exceptions, anyone seeking a non-invasive solution for persistent pain in the shoulders, elbows, knees and back is a candidate to try Shockwave.
WHAT DOES THE THERAPY FEEL LIKE?
You will initially feel a tapping over the painful spot (much like the little snap of an elastic band). Although mild discomfort may be reported, the majority of patients tolerate the therapy very well. Therapy can always be adjusted to suit the level of comfort of the patient.
HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT? HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?
Dr. Greidanus will tailor a treatment plan especially for you. A typical treatment takes around 10 minutes and you will need anywhere from 3-5 treatments in most cases, generally with 1 treatment scheduled per week. Occasionally more treatments will be recommended, based on continuous improvement.
HOW FAST WILL I SEE RESULTS?
You can experience pain relief after the first visit! However, the healing process will also continue over the next few weeks.
At Highlands Chiropractic & Wellness Centre, we use a BTL-6000 SWT Topline device. We are excited to offer this new and effective therapy to our patients!
